AI ESSAY MARKER
Mark my essay
Paste your essay and the question it answers. Swotly marks it the way a UK marker would: a percentage, a grade band, and specific feedback on what to fix to move up a band.
2 credits per essay. Your first one is free.
How it works
1
Paste the essay question and your essay (up to 4,000 words).
2
Choose your level and subject.
3
Get your mark and feedback in about a minute.
What you get
- A percentage mark and a band: First, 2:1, 2:2, Third or Fail for undergraduate work, Distinction, Merit, Pass or Fail for Masters, and an estimated grade for A-level.
- A short verdict on the essay's main strengths and weaknesses.
- Comments on the paragraphs that need work.
- Feedback on argument, use of evidence, structure and writing.
- Clear next steps to reach the next band.
What the marker looks for
- Does the essay answer the question that was set?
- Critical analysis, not just description.
- Evidence: cases, studies, data and sources used accurately.
- A clear structure with signposting, and a conclusion that answers the question.
- Clear academic writing and consistent referencing.
Works for law problem questions too
Paste a problem question and your answer. Swotly checks whether you spotted the issues, stated the law with authority, applied it to the facts and reached a conclusion.
Honest about AI marking
An AI mark is practice feedback, not an official grade, and it can be wrong. Use it as a guide to what to improve, alongside your module's marking criteria and your tutors' feedback. Swotly never rewrites your essay for you, and you should never submit AI-written text as your own work.
Question
'The postal rule has no place in modern contract law.' Discuss.
Mark
62% · 2:1
Verdict
A well-organised answer that uses the leading cases accurately. It explains the rule clearly but needs more critical evaluation to reach a First.
Strength
Accurate use of Adams v Lindsell and Holwell Securities v Hughes.
To improve
Evaluate whether the rule suits instant communication, using Entores v Miles Far East, and finish with a firm answer to the question.
Questions
Can AI mark my essay for free?
Yes. New accounts get 3 free credits and marking an essay costs 2, so your first essay is free. After that, credits start at £2.99 for 20.
How accurate is the mark?
It is a careful estimate based on UK marking criteria, but it is practice feedback, not an official grade. Use it to find what to improve, and check your module's criteria.
What essays can it mark?
Essays and written answers for UK undergraduate and Masters courses and A-level, in any essay-based subject, including law problem questions.
How long can my essay be?
Up to 4,000 words. For a dissertation, mark it a chapter at a time.
Will my university mind?
Swotly gives feedback; it does not write or rewrite your essay. Check your university's rules on using AI for feedback, and never submit AI-written text as your own.
Is my essay kept private?
Your essay is saved in your account so you can see the feedback again, and you can delete it at any time. It is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, only to mark it, and it is not used to train AI models.
